Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Diet Clerk processes all patient menus, including those for the tray line and room service program.  She/he coordinates food production according to established menus, answers telephone calls from patients and clinical staff, and prepares records and reports.

Qualifications

Education Background

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Certification/ License/ Registry / Permit

  • Washington State Food Handler's Permit required.

Special Training/Skills

  • Requires ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Requires excellent customer and communication skills.
  • Requires an understanding of diets and food items.

Work Experience

  • Six months to one year of food service experience working in an institutional setting, preferred.

Physical Abilities 

  • Able to work at a desk for several hours at a time. 
  • Able to move throughout the department and hospital.
  • For the efficient delivery of services to customers, this job requires sufficient English-language skills to understand and be understood when interacting with customers, visitors, patients, coworkers, management, and other members of the healthcare team including physicians.

Physical Demand Level:  Light

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

 

Lift / Carry 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently

 

As required, must be able to-

Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

Push and Pull

Perform fine motor functions

Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
