    Working under direct supervision of RN or MD, the Medical Assistant assists the Clinical Staff of the Heart Center in providing patient care in an efficient and professional manner. Assists in the care of all patients admitted to Cardiac Procedure Unit and/or Cardiac Rehab. Assists in preparation of patients for cardiac procedures and the performance of cardiac procedures as directed. Uses different computer systems to chart care, assist in scheduling procedures, register patients, and view patient information as needed. This is a dynamic role requiring flexibility and self-direction.


    Education Background

    • High school or GED or equivalent.
    • Completion of MA program.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • Medical Assistant-Certified.
    • Completion of a State of Washington approved blood borne pathogen education course.
    • BLS is required.

    Work Experience

    • One (1) year recent clinic or hospital experience as a Medical Assistant or equivalent.
    • OR Minimum (1) year recent clinic experience as a medical assistant or in a customer service role.
    • Cardiac or procedural experience preferred.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and basic medication knowledge.
    • Effective verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment with a diverse patient population; organized and efficient.
    • Able to work independently and with other team members.
    • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.

    Physical Abilities

    • Able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
    • Able to sit for long periods of time answering telephones, writing, and typing at the computer.

    Physical Demand Level: Heavy

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    • Lift / Carry
      • 50 to 100 pounds occasionally
      • 25 to 50 pounds frequently
      • 10 to 20 pounds constantly

    As required, must be able to-

    • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders
    • Push and Pull
    • Perform fine motor functions
    • Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
