Responsibilities

Works under the direction of Supervisor, Central Processing. The OR Assistants are responsible for room turnover and housekeeping duties within the Perioperative Services. They are also responsible for transportation of patients and transport of specimens.                                       

Qualifications

Educational Background

  • High school graduate or GED

Work Experience 

  • Prefer intraoperative experience as an aide or orderly, or hospital 
  • housekeeping experience.

Special Training/Skills 

  • Employee must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.

Physical Abilities 

  • Must be able to handle a fluctuating workload
  • Frequent contact with public and staff under a variety of circumstances.  Requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) for effective communication with other staff members, physicians, patients and patient families of all social and economic levels from a diverse cultural and ethnic population.

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

 

Lift / Carry

50 to 100 pounds occasionally

25 to 50 pounds frequently

10 to 20 pounds constantly

Push and Pull

Perform fine motor functions

Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
