Responsibilities

The Support Service Representative acts as Laboratory receptionist. This includes handling incoming phone calls, receiving patients arriving for blood draws, processing incoming specimens, troubleshooting account problems, and generating reports and lists.

Qualifications

Education Background 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  • None required

Special Training/Skills 

  • Knowledge of laboratory terminology, laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Proven experience in customer relations.  Public contact is extensive; must maintain good account relationships. 
  • Mainframe computer/personal computer skills. 
  • Excellent communication and telephone speaking skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide information and/or communicate appropriately with patients regardless of age and condition. 

Work Experience 

  • One year previous Lab customer or support services experience required (or 2 years experience as a Laboratory Assistant or other equivalent, relevant lab experience).

Physical Abilities

Physical Demand Level:  Sedentary

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

 

Lift / Carry 10 pounds occasionally

 

As required, must be able to-

Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

Push and Pull

Perform fine motor functions

Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
