Provides independent management of women’s health care focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, family planning and gynecological needs of women.  Performs complete and limited patient histories and physical examinations and may perform minor procedures.  Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic imaging tests.  Provides information about preventative care.   Provides patient education information.   Maintains medical records according to community standards of medical practice.  Practices within a healthcare system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client.


Education Background 

  • Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or Midwifery is required

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  • A current Registered Nurse (RN) License for the State of Washington is required.
  • A current Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license for the State of Washington with prescriptive authority is required.
  • Current CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) certification required. 
  • BLS required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 3 months of hire. 

Work Experience

  • Recent experience and demonstrated competence as a full scope CNM, including births, antepartum, postpartum, etc. 
  • Experience with newborn care, C-section first assist and obstetric ultrasound skills are a plus but not required.

Special Training/Skills 

  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department or clinic.
  • Microsoft Office skills:  Word, Excel and Outlook. 
  • Knowledgeably advises and helps patients and families with their complex care issues via phone or in person. 
  • Able to collaborate with various partners including but not limited to management and providers; inpatient hospital staff/providers; outside providers and consultants.
  • Teaches skills to newly hired staff and educates current staff when needed regarding updating or new information. 
  • Able to be flexible in responding to needs of clinic schedule and patient needs.

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to move freely throughout the clinic and hospital.

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
