    REPORTS TO: Clinic Administrator, Summit Cardiology



    The PSR position is a multi-task position that consists of all front-end functions including patient service, telephone management, scheduling, insurance card verification, registration, co-pay collections, charge entry, and appropriate cash and end of day closing procedures.


    The PSR will ensure that all provider schedules are appropriately populated, telephones are responded to within established protocols, and complete registration information is verified with the patient. Accurate processing of all front-end functions is integral to the position.


    The PSR Coordinates and works with other departments- physicians, nurses, management, techs, billing and medical records to ensure the clinic is running smoothly with the patients needs being met, acting as an advocate for the patient. Providing patients information regarding financial policies, registration requirements, and ensuring their needs are met while in the clinic including ordering interpreters, scheduling and necessary transportation.



    The PSR needs to have good communication skills, the ability to multi-task, be a cooperative team member, with a professional, efficient, and caring attitude.



    • Appropriately responds to patient inquiries via telephone and in person, in a courteous efficient manner
    • Verify patient demographics and medical insurance prior to the patient visit when possible
    • Appropriately triages calls to RN, MA, and MD as needed to determine accuracy of services needed
    • Accurately schedules appointments meeting the needs of patient’s and the physician’s schedule
    • Registers patients at each visit to capture complete, accurate patient and insurance information
    • Receives and posts co-payments and balances due at the time of service
    • Manage cash drawers and receipts, balance and close batch at the end of the day
    • Establish patient arrival for appointment and notifies appropriate clinical personnel of arrival when necessary
    • Understands HIPAA regulations and maintains confidentiality of all patient and practice information
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions, conflicting demands and deadlines
    • Multitasks to ensure efficient and accurate completion of daily assignments


    Day shift, week days in a climate controlled medical office environment.


    Education Background

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent. College level courses preferred but not required.

    Work Experience

    • Preferred 2 years experience working in medical office setting.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • EMR (EPIC) knowledge preferred.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology and scheduling experience.
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Excellent customer service and organization skills.
    • Ability to discuss medical and financial matters with tact and professionalism.

    Physical Abilities 

    • Sitting for sustained periods utilizing a computer.

    Physical Demand Level:  Medium

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    Lift / Carry

    20 to 50 pounds occasionally

    10 to 25 pounds frequently

    up to 10 pounds constantly


    As required, must be able to-

    Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

    Push and Pull

    Perform fine motor functions

    Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
