Assists physician in performing Electrophysiology Lab exams & procedures, includes but is not limited to:
Performs assigned exams and procedures in accordance with established protocols and standards.
Maintains and provides expertise in the operation of all equipment used in the Electrophysiology lab including xray, monitoring, recording and mapping systems and any other specialized equipment used in ablations.
Maintains and understanding of the features of the various catheters and other supplies used in the EP procedures.
Demonstrates a knowledge and ability to interpret complex cardiac rhythms during EP procedures.
Possesses the ability to scrub and assist physicians during EP procedures including the implantation of cardiac rhythm management devices.
Safety: Provides protection for patient, self, and other staff in accordance with prescribed safety standards and protective devices. Uses proper sterile technique
Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies. Investigates and informs supervisor of any quality issues or problems.
Assists in the establishment, updates and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols.
May be asked to help in the cardiac cath lab.
Performs tasks competently in emergency situations, including CPR.
Operates, troubleshoots, maintains equipment, includes but is not limited to:
Operates EP equipment effectively to improve exam quality; troubleshoots problems in accordance to departmental procedures and vendor specifications.
Documentation, includes but is not limited to:
Reviews orders prior to exam and documents any changes per physician.
Uses RIS/PACS effectively to verify and complete the study; and to input/order/edit/cancel exams.
Completes required paperwork and records. Accurately inputs charges, exam statistics, supplies and medication uses, patient care provided; prepares reports.
Effectively uses the computer and NWH software applications (including scheduling and medication systems) to access information.
Provides appropriate documentation to the cardiologists.
Coordinates and optimizes customer service and workflow, includes but is not limited to:
Continually evaluates patient flow and work assignments, makes necessary adjustments, and prioritizes work effectively.
Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, physicians and office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc.
Interacts and communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
Interacts and communicates with the EP team members to provide efficient and timely patient care for all procedures performed in the EP lab which includes on time starts and lab turnover between procedures.
In order to provide a high level of customer service and necessary coverage, all staff are required to answer phones; assist in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport).
Maintains environment, includes but is not limited to:
Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready.
Inventories supplies and linens. Restocks rooms as needed.
Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.
Training and Collaboration, includes but is not limited to:
Assists with training and mentoring new personnel and students.
Prepares and presents in-service education programs if assigned.
Attends staff meetings and required in-services.
Participates in departmental goals and performance improvement projects.
