    • Analyzes variances: Analyzes patient accounts, EOBs (explanation of benefits) and insurance company contracts to determine the cause of variance between payments received versus expected (for example: true underpayment, posting error, late charges not billed, late charges not paid by insurance company?).
    • Processes corrections: For true underpayments, completes resubmission packets for additional payments; corrects contractual adjustments; changes DRGs to APDRGs in IMaCS or processes account overrides as appropriate to correct claims.
    • Creates detailed reports for management.
    • Assists Credit Balance Supervisor to determine if requested refunds are correct.
    • Assists follow-up team and cash posting to determine if accounts have been paid correctly and if contractual adjustments are correct.                                                                               AH123      


    Education Background

    • Requires an associate degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field,
    • or the combination of college courses  plus extensive directly relevant experience, which, in the Director’s opinion, is the equivalent of an associate degree.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • None required

    Special Training/Skills

    • Demonstrated ability to detect, verify, and utilize knowledge of systematic issues and trends.
    • Able to work independently and solve problems, as well as collaborate and share knowledge with team members.
    • Requires good skills in office computer applications, basic math, typing.
    • Requires demonstrated skills in patient accounting computer systems and related web sites (such as HBOC Star, IMaCS, e-Premis).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of third party billing and collection processes, cash application processes, managed care, Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs
    • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.

    Work Experience

    • Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the following areas (or directly related education can be substituted for experience, at the Director’s discretion):
    • Bookkeeping or accounting
    • Medical terminology and coding
    • Medical insurance processes
    • General office procedures
    • Medical posting, billing and/or patient account service, and problem resolution
    • Hospital billing practices
    • Electronic billing systems
    • Credit balance processing
    • Collector processing
    • Follow-up processing
    • Hospital contract agreements with third-party insurance companies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely payments
    • Third -party insurance company billing, corrections, payment methods
    • Medicare billing and collections requirements and processes

    Physical Demand Level:  Sedentary

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-
    Lift / Carry 10 pounds occasionally
