    Registered nurses work collaboratively as part of a professional and medical team that includes doctors, social workers, care managers and therapists. They work to restore the patients’ health by following evidence-based nursing practices, exercising independent judgement and managing complex health issues. Nurses provide physical and psychological support to patients and also delegate tasks to ancillary team members.


    The Heart Center RN is responsible for providing triage, assessment, nursing diagnosis, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care for each discipline within Heart Center (Electrophysiology, Cardiac Cath Lab, and Cardiac Procedure Unit). Procedures will include (but are not limited to) ablations, pacemakers, cardiac catheterizations, transthoracic echocardiograms, and cardioversions. The emphasis of care is on safe moderate sedation practices. The RN in this unit will show initiative and seek knowledge to improve patient outcomes and will coordinate with all members of the interdisciplinary care team.


    Education Background

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  BSN preferred.

     Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • A current Registered Nurse License for the State of Washington is required.
    • BLS and ACLS certification are required.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Expertise with the delivery of procedural sedation.
    • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.
    • Familiarity with cardiac diagnostic procedures.
    • Rhythm interpretation proficiency.
    • Solid understanding of cardiac pathophysiology.
    • Working knowledge of hemodynamic value interpretation.
    • Ability or willingness to be trained to back-up cath lab or EP procedures as the circulating RN.
    • Familiarity with vasoactive and ACLS medication administration.
    • Knowledge of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump management, Impella, and temporary pacing preferred.

    Work Experience

    • Minimum of 2 years of prior RN experience is required, Critical Care setting preferred.
    • Experiences commiserate with caring for the cardiac procedural and/or cardiac cath lab patient for admissions and recovery is preferred.
    • Experience with Procedural Sedation is required.

    Physical Abilities

    • Must be able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
    • Must be able to handle a fluctuating workload.
    • This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.
