    The HIM Quality Control Specialist performs quality checks on the electronic record by verifying the accuracy of data entered into the document imaging system.  Researches and corrects errors made in the processing functions by manually indexing documents to the correct level within the electronic health record.  Identifies quality issues that occurred during the point of prepping and scanning of the documents.  Reviews document imaging record against the paper record to ensure its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security prior to being released as the legal business document for the hospital.

    Assists in release of protected health information.  


    Education Background

    • Minimum requirement: High School graduate or GED.
    • Prefer Associate Degree in Health Record Management.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • None required.
    • Prefer RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) from AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).

    Special Training/Skills

    • Medical terminology required (either from experience or formal classes).
    • Demonstrated organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently. 
    • Critical thinking, decision-making skills, problem solving skills, billing issue resolution skills.
    • Creative and innovative—able to make suggestions for improvements.
    • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Microsoft Excel.

    Work Experience

    • 2 years Health Information Management experience preferred.

    Physical Abilities

    • Able to stand, sit, or use computer for up to 2 hours at a time. Maintains current knowledge of and utilizes ergonomic workstation recommendations.

    Physical Demand Level:  Sedentary

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    Lift / Carry 10 pounds occasionally


    As required, must be able to-

    Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

    Push and Pull

    Perform fine motor functions

    Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
