    The Medical Staff Specialist is an entry-level position and will provide growth and development in Medical Staff Services. Responsible for administrative support and assisting with the coordination of Medical Staff activities within the parameters established by the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, Medical Staff leadership, as well as Medical Staff Services Manager.  These responsibilities include assisting with the processing of physician credentials for initial appointment/reappointment, maintenance of pertinent records, the coordination and support of Medical Staff committee meetings, maintenance of multiple computer databases.





    Education Background

    • High School Graduate or GED, some college coursework preferred. 

    Licensure, Registration, Certification 

    • Certification as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) preferred.

    Special Training/Skills 

    • Excellent typing/word processing skills; ability to work with database programs and multiple computer software applications.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
    • Demonstrated command of good grammar and spelling;
    • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. 
    • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with physicians and hospital staff. 
    • Experience in high paced environment with multiple interruptions and deadlines. 
    • Ability to work well under stressful situations; makes sound judgment. 
    • Self-directed; takes initiative in prioritizing and completing projects.

    Work Experience 

    • Minimum 1 year of relevant administrative experience, preferably in a health care setting.  Experience with performance improvement, quality assurance, peer review, credentialing, and regulatory requirements is desirable.

    Physical Abilities

    • Ability to sit at computer for extended periods of time.

    Physical Demand Level:  Light

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-


    Lift / Carry  20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently


    As required, must be able to-

    Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

    Push and Pull

    Perform fine motor functions

    Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
