    The Clinical Nursing Educator is a key leader in supporting excellence in clinical care for NWH patients throughout the hospital by mentoring staff, developing evidence-based standards, fostering best practices and consulting on the plan of care for patients within the designated clinical specialty – Vascular Access including peripheral intravenous lines, central line care and port access.  The Nurse Educator teaches both at the bedside and in classroom for nurses and other disciplines at NWH.  In addition, the Nurse Educator tracks key quality indicators in the specialty and works with others for systematic improvement efforts.


    Education Background

    Master’s degree in a nursing or related field required. If Masters is not in Nursing, BSN required. Doctorate in Nursing preferred.


    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • Registered Nurse (RN) currently licensed in State of Washington.
    • Advanced Practice Nursing license preferred.
    • Certification in Clinical Specialty required or willing to obtain within first 6 months.


    Special Training/Skills

    • This job requires knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles and skills in program development, coordination, presentation in a variety of modalities, and evaluation and assessment. 
    • Requires computer skills, including Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint. 
    • PICC and/or Midline Certification preferred.


    Work Experience

    • Minimum of three years direct patient care clinical (RN) experience in a hospital setting required,  and
    • Two years experience in education/teaching required, including experience developing, implementing, presenting, and evaluating educational programs, either in an educational setting or in a hospital strongly preferred.
    • One year of leadership, consultation or advanced practice nursing experience preferred.


    Physical Abilities

    This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.


    Physical Demand Level:  Light                    

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    Lift / Carry 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently


    As required, must be able to-

    • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders
    • Push and Pull
    •  Perform fine motor functions
    • Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
