PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Plans and Evaluates Care, includes but is not limited to:
Reviews physician’s prescription and patient information, performs assessments of patient’s breathing condition, and recommends appropriate respiratory therapy treatment to physician.
Monitors patient’s responses to therapy and appropriately consults with nurses and physician if adverse reactions occur.
Refers concerns regarding patient care plan to supervisor and director.
Provides, Progresses, and Documents Care, includes but is not limited to:
Performs respiratory diagnostics including: Nocturnal oximetry testing, bedside pulmonary function testing, apnea monitoring, and bronchoscopy assistance.
Sets up and operates respiratory equipment, following treatment parameters.
Administers respiratory therapy treatments including:
Documents patient treatment and responses according to policy and procedure. Properly completes all required paperwork.
Provides for Continuing Care, includes but is not limited to:
Educates patient, family members and caregivers on breathing condition and instructs them on appropriate management techniques such as breathing exercises and home respiratory care.
Communication and Collaboration, includes but is not limited to:
Confers with interdepartmental team to plan, implement, and assess the treatment program.
Acts as consultant to nursing and physician staff regarding technical aspects of respiratory care.
Communicates pertinent clinical information to nursing and physician staff.
Gives complete, accurate and pertinent patient information at shift report.
Training and Leadership, includes but is not limited to:
Serves as a resource to other Respiratory Care staff in theory and application of respiratory therapeutics.
Trains and orients new employees.
Supervises and trains assigned students and evaluates their performance.
Assists with organizational planning, and actively participates in the development and implementation of new programs, departmental performance improvement projects, and projects that ensure the department remains compliant with all regulatory requirements.
Equipment and Supplies, includes but is not limited to:
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all respiratory care equipment and its operation.
Inspects, cleans, tests and maintains equipment to ensure proper functioning, ordering repairs as needed.
Complies with procedures for maintenance of departmental supplies and equipment. *CA AH123
