    Responsibilities

    The Clinic Ostomy Nurse functions as an expert clinician in assessing, planning, evaluating, and revising the plan of care for patients needing specialty ostomy care.

    • Utilizes the nursing process to assess and plan care and education for ostomy and wound care patients.
    • Assesses patient care needs and identifies interventions for treatment/prevention of skin related conditions and ostomies
    • Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.

    Qualifications

    Education Background 

    • Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Graduate of a WOCN-accredited education program preferred.
    • BSN preferred.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification 

    • A current Registered Nurse License for the State of Washington is required.
    • Certification in Wound and Ostomy WOCN (or Wound and Ostomy certification required within 2 years of hire)
    • BLS required.

    Work Experience 

    • At least one year of wound/ostomy care experience is required.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
    • Knowledge of adult learning principles.

    Physical Abilities

    • Must be able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
    • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. 

     

    Physical Demand Level:  Medium

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    Lift / Carry

    • 20 to 50 pounds occasionally
    • 10 to 25 pounds frequently
    • up to 10 pounds constantly

     

    As required, must be able to-

    Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

    Push and Pull

    Perform fine motor functions

    Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
