    Responsibilities

    Providing Surgical Support to the surgeon in the Operating Room

    • Perioperative Patient Management:Performing focused perioperative assessments
    • Intraoperative performance of surgical first assistant techniques:Delivers direct surgical care by assisting physician using instruments and medical devices
    • Helps control/ provide hemostasis
    • Provides wound exposure
    • Handling and/or cutting tissue
    • Suturing and
    • Wound management

    Collaboration and Communication

    • Consults, coordinates, and collaborates effectively with members of the health care team regarding patient plan of care.
    • Effectively communicates with other staff members and management to assure continuous service to patients and timely resolution of issues.
    • Supports patient satisfaction and customer service initiatives.

    Qualifications

    Education Background

    • Bachelors or equivalent required.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • Surgical Assistant - Certified
    • ACLS certification and Conscious Sedation certification preferred.
    • BLS required.
    • A current National Provider Identifier
    • Must become credentialed through NWHMC Medical Staff Office

    Work Experience

    • Minimum of six months of prior experience in a health care setting with direct patient contact required.  One year preferred.
    • Previous surgical experience preferred. 
    • Total Joint experience desired.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.  
    • As defined by Northwest Hospital Medical Staff appointment and credentialing process.

    Physical Abilities

    • Must be able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
    • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
