    Responsibilities

    Counsels patients with chronic inflammatory, autoimmune and digestive disorders.

     

     

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

     

    1. Patient Care, includes but is not limited to:

     

    • Assesses patient’s diet for nutritional deficiencies and excesses; including food allergies/sensitivities that may be impacting inflammation. 
    • Assesses for, and specializes in, Histamine Intolerance and Mast Cell Activation Disorder by:

     

    ü  Prescribes and manages low histamine/salicylate and allergen elimination diets

     

    ü  Recommends and prescribes supplementation and OTS medication

     

    ü  Recommends and coordinates  medications such as mast cell stabilizers and prescription antihistamines

     

    • Assesses for, and specializes in, the connection between irregularities in the gastrointestinal microbiome and systemic inflammation by:

     

    ü  Coordinating orders for Hydrogen Breath Tests to rule out Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

     

    ü  Provides interpretation of test results

     

    ü  Recommends treatment protocols

     

    ü  Coordinates antibiotics related to SIBO eradication

     

    • Mentors shadowing/visiting graduate students, RDs and Dietetic Interns
    • Addresses weight loss and reducing symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome and inflammation through dietary change

     

     

     

    1. Management of Supplements, includes but is not limited to:

     

    • Recommends appropriate supplementation to address Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, Mast Cell Activation/Histamine Intolerance, MTHFR mutation and severe food allergies
    • Studies research related to these conditions to determine appropriate supplements and dosages with which to treat.
    • Manages the ordering, inventory and income/expense of recommended supplements.

     

     

     

    Qualifications

     

    Education Background

    Masters of Science – Nutrition

     

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    Registered Dietician, First Line Therapy Certified Instructor

     

    Special Training/Skills

    Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, Mast Cell Activation Disorders, Histamine Intolerance

     

    Work Experience

    5 -10 years of Medical Nutrition Therapy in Rheumatology Practice /Clinic

     

    Physical Abilities

    Ability to sit for up to four hours at a time.  Able to operate a computer.

     

    This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with

    all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.

     

    Physical Demand Level:  Sedentary

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

     

    Lift / Carry 10 pounds occasionally

     

    As required, must be able to-
